Great Glebe Garage Sale 2007

Yesterday was the big day. Mekki's and my favourite Ottawa event - the Great Glebe Garage Sale. This year we decided to go in early (6:30am) to get a good central parking spot so that we didn't have to keep walking back to Lansdowne to drop stuff off. We then went to Kettleman's for a yummy breakfast and much needed coffee. The garagesaling began around 7:15 and we managed to fill up the trunk of the car by 2:30 when we stopped by the Arrow and Loon for lunch and a much needed beer. Then we continued to walk around for another hour or so picking up a few more items that had been abandoned by the curb with "please take me" signs.

It makes for a very long day and sore muscles but the weather was great and we had a lot of fun.

The great finds include:
- 65 new miscellaneous CDs
- 100 books
- 30 video games (including 7th guest: the collector and Riven)
- a few movie and series DVDs (including Family Guy and Batman Begins collector ed.)
- Taekwondo pads
- duplicate espresso machine (for the missing and extra parts to our current one)
- beer glasses

Check out the additions to the book/game list plus some from ValueVillage's recent 50% off day and some that were still at Mekki's parents.

*sigh* neighbours

Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking - well more specifically, not thinking. It's a hot day so I don't really feel like cooking inside, that's what barbeques are for. So Mekki's just left to pick up some buns while I set up the portable bbq. One problem. The neighbour has placed a picnic table and inflatable raft which is pooled up with water on top of the bbq. Not just over but on the bbq. Attempts to move said picnic table results in being splashed by said pool of water and a loud creaking noise coming from the bbq. Anyone want salad for dinner?

This is after not being able to park in my parking spot today because even though I have the tricky spot that requires parallel parking to get into no one else seems to be able to pull into their spots to leave me enough room. Then there is the yelling which is now increased by the fact that the windows are open to let in some air.

All it takes is a little extra consideration.

*sigh*

I tried everything...

... including the kitchen sink!

There's been a clog in the bathtub keeping it from draining properly so that showers kept turning into baths. I tried plunging about a month ago and picked up a zip-it to pull out any hair that might be in the way (though I'm usually pretty good at catching it before it goes down the drain). The only result I got was a bit faster draining after pulling some gunk out of the bathroom sink.

Yesterday I was soaking a wine bottle in the kitchen sink to peel off the label for our wine tasting diary. When I pulled the plug Mekki happened to be in the bathroom and noticed that the bathtub started to glug and spit up yucky smelly water. I should have thought of it before. I had all the other air escapes plugged last time, everything but the proverbial and literal kitchen sink. A few rounds back and forth today between the kitchen sink and bathtub and for the first time in about two months I enjoyed a shower that didn't end in a wading pool!

Back from London

Had a nice relaxing trip. Got to sit around and veg a bit. Hit a few stores. Eat lots of yummy food. And catch up with a bunch of people.

I met up with Mom, Aaron, Rachel and Grandma in Stratford to see Merchant of Venice. I had planned to make it down a couple hours early to hit the shops but not early enough. Everything closes at 5pm. But I enjoyed the play. Stratford is interesting for Shakespeare. They repeat the same play so often that they have to find something to make it entertaining and different.

Saturday was my cousin's Bar Mitzvah in Kitchener. I was the second of the generation to be Bat Mitzvah'ed and now he's the second last. After the service I rushed back to London for my friend Lara's wedding shower. I was really happy that I was going to be in town for it. Caught up with a bunch of friends I haven't seen since high school which was nice.

Finally Sunday was back to Kitchener for the party. I think it's been about 3 years since I'd seen most of my cousins, aunts and uncles. Nice party. Good food. Unfortunately there was a major accident on the 401 between Kitchener and Toronto so the drive home involved a 1 hour detour around Toronto. Fortunately after that the 401 was moving fast the rest of the way so I was only about 30 minutes late getting home.

And, it's always nice to come home. Especially to a freshly cleaned apartment and chinese take-out. Mekki's a sweety.
